Perm City Square & City Mall is a 115,000 sqm masterplan design for the central main square and park of Perm, created in 2012. The innovative concept features an underground shopping destination that preserves and celebrates the original urban fabric above, creating a larger open and inviting pub…

Background

This ambitious project aimed to reconnect Perm's downtown area and movement patterns by creating a state-of-the-art central hub for this major Russian city. The design thoughtfully positions the new central square between the City Hall building on one end and the city's National Theatre on the other, creating a meaningful civic space. The masterplan reconnects with the pre-existing landscape through specific ecology and abstracted landscape forms, with new pedestrian pathways linking all features.

What We Did

We created exterior visualizations, night views, and a rendered site plan for the Perm City Square & City Mall project. Our visualizations showcased how the underground shopping center would preserve the open public space above while creating a beautiful sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces. The renderings highlighted the consistent vocabulary of forms and palette of materials used throughout the design, illustrating how the new facilities would celebrate existing monuments and principal pedestrian routes while modernizing the park. Our work helped communicate the vision of a welcoming city hub capable of sustaining year-round recreational activity.
